Mt. Washington... in a blizzard
Ken came up to Victoria the weekend of Dec. 15 to attend my company Christmas party (photos of which show a group of hardly-recognizable, half-tossed geologists and 20-somethings... not published here to protect the innocent) and to ski at Mt. Washington up-island.
A blizzard struck on our venture, and the 100-mile trip took 5 hours up and back, with no skiing in the middle.
The upside was that Ken showed me how to put my chains on the faithful Subaru, and I got to drive in some heinous snow conditions. I followed behind a snow plow the last 15 mile stretch up the mountain. Vehicles were stuck everywhere, some buried so deeply that Ken thought they'd be digging out around March.
