Work and Play

If you're sick to death of hearing about skiing and snow, this is your last lament! The mountains of Washington beckoned on the sunny holiday weekend, but it was work first, play second! Ken wanted to take advantage of the weather to make some repairs to his house in Leavenworth.



The drainpipe on the back of the house was ripped off by the massive amount of snow that built up on the roof this winter. Our task: fascia board.



This one is right out of the safety book: Ken balancing the board on his foot while sawing. I was in charge of switching the plugs between saw and nail gun compressor. I also played sherpa by fetching tools, handing the nail gun up the ladder, and holding the fascia board in place with a pole. I even tried out the nail gun, which I discovered was rapid-fire and had a kick.



This is Ken's snow-free lawn. Just a few months ago (New Year's Eve), the same corner looked like this:



The banks of the river are still covered with snow... in a couple of months we'll be rafting here!



Saturday at Mission Ridge, we enjoyed hours of spring skiing in the warm sun.



The visibility at the summit was hundreds of miles in every direction. We could even see Mt. Rainier in the distance.

We have watched the tower in the background get buried and unburied by snow during our several visits here this winter. In January, it was barely visible under feet of snow...

Back to the present... this is the only look I got all winter of a double black diamond... the picture Ken took...



There were very few people on the slopes, and the weather was gorgeous... a beautiful way to squeeze the last of winter out of the mountains. Hope you had a great Easter weekend!
