Mom and John take the northwest by storm

Virtually, not literally... the weather has been absolutely beautiful since mom and John stepped off the plane in Seattle on September 9. They have been entertaining me constantly since then, hence the lack of blog posts! (Plus with John here in Victoria, one of my frequent readers is not currently reading.)
I've been to Seattle many times but have never gone on the Underground Tour or up in the Space Needle. Having family visiting is a great excuse to behave like a tourist and pay exorbitant rates to herd around in groups. Actually it was quite interesting... these two photos sum it up.
Views from the Needle were spectacular... to the west were the Olympic Mountains, to the south Mt. Ranier, to the north Whidbey Island, and below us we watched float planes landing on Lake Union.

Then it was on to the border, where my car was searched for the first time by Canadian customs... luckily this time I actually declared my items. It was my mom they were after but she came up clean. Both fellows were handsome, and I asked if they needed to do a strip search of the driver, but they respectfully declined. We skidded into line at the ferry terminal and drove right on board, lucky to catch the beautiful sunset on the way to Vancouver Island.
